Dr. Ana Kumar (00:04):
After I was diagnosed with breast cancer, my medical oncologist suggested this hospital because that’s where she would’ve come had she had been diagnosed with breast cancer.
Dr. Rajesh Kumar (00:19):
We did a lot of research on this matter and then we looked up our reviews, we looked at articles, publications, and we saw that Dr. D was internationally renowned and it was amazing that we had a surgeon like that in New Orleans and had the opportunity to come here and get world-class care. What I really enjoyed about the Surgical Breast Center in New Orleans was when I walked in, it’s such a traumatic experience to be diagnosed with breast cancer. It’s horrible for my wife, the patient, the family. I felt that each one of the nurses, each member of the medical team was heavily invested in her care. So I’m a physician, so when we first received the diagnosis, it was devastating. It really took us aback. We had to, as a doctor, do a lot of research. We of course then went to get further opinions from different institutions.
(01:14):
We saw different surgeons prior to coming here. Once we arrived here, I felt that we made the right decision.
Dr. Ana Kumar (01:23):
Once I was diagnosed with breast cancer, you go through a gamut of emotions. I’m a physician as well, and so I had a lot of knowledge, maybe too much knowledge. So once I wrapped my head around the diagnosis, the next step was treatment. And I knew immediately that for me, my choice was a mastectomy because I did not want to leave any stone unturned. I woke up, I was in this sweet-like hotel/hospital room. It’s unbelievably beautiful. I was comforted by nurses. And then when we were here and we met Dr. D, he put my mind at ease and he was so confident everything was going to go well.
Dr. Rajesh Kumar (02:18):
And we were so confident with Dr. Ordoyne with his years of surgical oncology experience, because of course we want the outcome to be great aesthetically, but his level of expertise in making sure the cancer and clear margins was very important to us. And he did an excellent job. I think what it boils down to is Dr. D is just a world-class surgeon. This is amazing what he’s able to do because he can do these SGAP procedures, which are … There are very few surgeons in America that have the number and the level of expertise that Dr. D and his team have.
Dr. Ana Kumar (02:56):
It was like so comforting.
Dr. Rajesh Kumar (02:58):
He’s very comforting. Fantastic surgeon.
Dr. Ana Kumar (03:01):
And it gave me strength. During this scary and unknown time in our life, the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery was the answer to our prayers.
