Craig Ashley Blum, MD is an expert in the art and science of breast reconstruction. He is part of the world-renowned team of surgeons at the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery in New Orleans, Louisiana. His pioneering work in the field of natural tissue transplantation has led to improved outcomes for women seeking the most advanced methods of breast reconstruction. Most recently, Dr. Blum was recently the lead author on an article published in the Journal of Reconstructive Microsurgery regarding a new technique for thinner women seeking reconstruction of their breast with living fat.

Dr. Blum graduated Magna Cum Laude with a Bachelor of Science in Biology from the University of South Carolina and received his Medical Degree from the Medical University of South Carolina in Charleston, SC. He also served both his internship and residency in general surgery at the Medical University of South Carolina, in addition to completing a year of research in cancer genetics at the Hollings Cancer Center. He was awarded the Perry V. Halushka award for his postdoctoral work in cancer genetic markers. In his final year of general surgery residency he served as the Administrative Chief General Surgery Resident and was awarded an inaugural membership in the Curtis P. Artz MUSC Surgical Society. He then travelled to New Orleans where he completed a 3 year fellowship in plastic and reconstructive surgery at Tulane University where he also served as Administrative Chief Plastic Surgery Resident. During that time, Dr. Blum was instrumental in the development of the Tulane Plastic Surgery Microsurgery Training Lab. As a resident, he received several scholarly awards and honors. He is double board certified in General Surgery and Plastic and Reconstructive Surgery and is an active member of the American Society of Plastic Surgeons and American College of Surgeons. He has published numerous journal articles, abstracts, and book chapters. He has lectured extensively at seminars and meetings around the United States and has recently returned from sharing his work internationally in Mumbai, India. He has been invited to speak at the next meeting of the American Society of Reconstructive Microsurgery in January 2017.
