It took me three months to make the decision to do it and I wanted to do it all at once and I talked to the doctors where I live and they weren’t good on doing it all at once. They wanted me to schedule one thing and then do the next. So when I called here, they said they could do it all, take care of the mastectomy too. So we did it here. Took me like three months to make the decision and one day to make the call and then I was sold. I knew I wanted a double mastectomy, but my cancer was DCIS, which is a good cancer to have. And the doctors were telling me I didn’t have to have a double mastectomy, but I wanted to get rid of them to avoid radiation and tamoxifen. I called here and they did it all.

They took care of everything in one phone call. It was great. Once I came here, it was like a spa just talking to the doctors. They all spent like an hour with me to answer all my questions, which was amazing. I was very confident. Had a good night’s sleep the night before and was ready to go and didn’t have any worries. My doctor was Dr. Trahan. He’s very calming, very calming. I was so confident with his confidence that everything was going to be okay and Dr. Ordoyne was great too. He did 500 mastectomies last year. That made me feel great. This is the place to be. I would say he just took his time, been rushed out and answered all my questions, didn’t have to do anything I didn’t want done and showed that he was concerned and knew that I traveled a long way and made this decision and he was going to do everything right.

So felt good about it. So I traveled. The flight from Fort Lauderdale was only less than two hours and I was going to do it in Florida at other places to drive six hours. I would have to find my own mastectomy surgeon, my own breast surgeon. This place did it all at once. They organized it all. I got here. It was so worth it. I felt supported in my aftercare. Mikayla called me once a week, but I could also contact her at any time, email or phone call and she was great to answer all my questions and I could send her pics and whatever. And I felt very supported in the aftercare, even being all the way in Fort Lauderdale. The first stage was amazing. I felt great waking up in my body because it looked better than it did before the surgery already. And I was contemplating like, do I need stage two because it looked really good, but I might as well go for it.

So we came for stage two and I’m excited about the results too. It was great. I mean, could have just done it with one, but I’m here for the whole thing. I’m looking forward to fitting in my clothes better and we have a wedding coming up that I’m excited about, but we have a little place in the Keys, so we like to be on the water all the time. So I’m excited to get back to that in my new suit.
