The New Breast Reconstruction Section of the Breastcancer.org Site Provides Updated Content and Images

Philadelphia, Pennsylvania – Breastcancer.org, the world’s leading online resource for breast health and breast cancer information and support, and the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery have announced a partnership that supports their shared mission to ensure all women are getting the information they need to make informed decisions about their health when faced with a breast cancer diagnosis. The partnership will support this mission by redeveloping the Breast Reconstruction section on Breastcancer.org. The updated section will offer the latest information on breast reconstruction techniques and before and after photos, insurance coverage issues, and how to find an experienced surgeon.

“I started Breastcancer.org almost 15 years ago to make sure that people affected by breast cancer had access to the most up-to-date medical expert information available,” said Marisa C. Weiss, M.D., breast radiation oncologist and founder of Breastcancer.org. “This new partnership with the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery greatly enhances our ability to help women better understand their reconstruction options so they can make the best decisions for their precious lives.”

Both Breastcancer.org and the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery work to provide women with answers and options. Breastcancer.org has reached more than 47 million people globally over the past 14 years and includes over 7,000 pages of original, expert-reviewed content providing the most reliable, complete, and up-to-date breast health and breast cancer information available.

Scott Sullivan, M.D., F.A.C.S., and Frank DellaCroce, M.D., F.A.C.S., co-founders of the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery and St. Charles Surgical Hospital, the first and only hospital in the world dedicated to breast reconstruction for women facing breast cancer, have performed more than 5,000 breast reconstruction surgeries on women from all over the world. They are pioneering some of the most advanced microsurgical techniques used today, including the nipple-sparing mastectomy and the APEX FlapCM reconstruction.

“We are honored to be a part of the Breastcancer.org community,” states Dr. DellaCroce. “In a world where everyone turns to the Internet for answers, Breastcancer.org has led the way in presenting world-class information and support to both patients and caregivers.”

Dr. DellaCroce and Dr. Sullivan have joined Breastcancer.org’s Professional Advisory Board and will provide valuable insight for both professionals and individuals seeking breast reconstruction information and guidance. They will also participate in podcasts, which will include “Meet the Experts;” patient Q&A sessions; patient stories; and medical expert advice and input.

The redeveloped Breast Reconstruction section will include:

  • New content covering microsurgery techniques using a woman’s own tissue, such as the stacked DIEP and stacked GAP flaps and the body lift perforator flap surgeries
  • New before and after breast reconstruction photos
  • Additional new content covering:
    • surgery to match the remaining breast to the reconstructed breast
    • how to find a qualified plastic surgeon
