Christyn’s Journey
Christyn and her husband were scared when she was first diagnosed with cancer, but Dr. Mary Jo Wright made them feel like family from the start. They were overwhelmed with gratitude that the doctors who invented this surgery would perform it on her, allowing her to maintain her femininity. Listen as they share their experience with Dr. Wright, Dr. Scott Sullivan, and Christyn’s excellent results.
So I was diagnosed when I was 43 last March.
I got the call, the worst call of my life. I’m already gonna cry. It was supposed to be a really good year for us, and it turned into hell. So We were just shocked because we thought, oh, the, it’s gonna be benign, it’s going, you’re fine. And you know, everybody tries to encourage you, you’re fine. It’s gonna be benign. And on March 26th, I spent our day, um, and our world crumbled.
Well, at the time it was just one – one breast, you know, she, she had, uh, a small spot. It was just, we went to the breast surgeon. It was just gonna be a simple lumpectomy. And at that point, the most important thing on my mind that was hardest for me was, I just want it out. I don’t wanna walk around with cancer. What if it’s growing?
You know, everything. You’re just kind of emotionally a wreck. And so every day felt like eternity. And so they got me into Dr. Wright immediately. It was the best. I mean, right away. Yeah. It was like we were family. They accepted us right in Dr. Wright is awesome. She’s just so open with us. I mean, she laughs with us, cries with us, Hugged us, and, you know, so right away I fell at ease. Like, oh, this is, we’re in the right hands. You know?
So when we met with Dr. Wright, she mentioned that another doctor would be joining her from New Orleans to do the procedure, and his name would be Dr. Sullivan. And that they were both from the Breast Center in New Orleans. And we go home and start researching and we’re like, this is the guy who invented the surgery. Like, just a guy. Are you kidding Me? I, I could not, I think that was the most amazing part to me, is that wow, the person who invented this procedure is coming here to take care of my body. And I was so overwhelmed with such gratefulness, and it give us a piece, like, everything’s gonna be fine.
Yeah. You know, really cool. So, and for me, I didn’t, I didn’t wanna have implants just personally, and I didn’t know there was another option. And so we were amazed.
We went in on May 9th, they were able to get us in on May 9th. Yeah. So quick, So fast. And, they performed the surgery and our son’s birthday was on May 11th, and so he turned four. So Yeah, they, I mean, the, the recovery time is so fast. Yeah. And we’re able to get out in two days to go be with him on his birthday. And so we got to go home on his birthday.
And then Dr. Sullivan, he, we were also amazed by just who he was.
I’ve never had an experience with doctors that are that close and hands on with you, not just right after surgery, but the day after and the next day after, and every day since.
So when I woke up, I remember I didn’t really know what to expect as far as what I would look like.
Right. I was amazed because when I looked in the mirror, I was like, oh my goodness. I looked better than I did before I was diagnosed with cancer. It was natural. It was, it was perfect. I felt, I felt so relieved, like, ’cause I’m married too, and I was nervous about that whole element. You know, how you’ve, how you wanna feel good about yourself. And I was blown away by the results.
I want people to have the best care and the best experience. And for me, that was what was this? And the, the hospitality is like next level. It has not been bad. And I can stand here and say I’m alive and I’m feel good and I’m doing really well.
Mm-hmm. And I feel like I still have a female body. And that was huge to me. So thank you for that.
