Dr. Ordoyne: Informing and Transforming Breast Cancer Patients
READ TRANSCRIPT
Dr. Ordoyne: When a woman has been diagnosed with breast cancer and comes to us at this facility, frequently I’m the first person that they interface with. I take that as a big responsibility, educating them on the process of what we do here.
My goal as a surgical oncologist is to remove the breast cancer completely from the women’s breasts, and then once I’ve completed the mastectomy, they can have immediate breast reconstruction. Immediate breast reconstruction is when, in the same setting, the restorative breast surgeons can take tissue from another part of the body and place it into the mastectomy site. It’s a pretty special process.
I feel fortunate that I’m part of a team of surgeons that take care of these women with breast cancer and help them become more whole again and feel like they are still beautiful and functional.
Watch Dr. Karl Ordoyne as he discusses how he helps women better understand the process of what we do here at the Breast Center.
