Center for Restorative Breast Surgery – Breast Reconstruction Today
One in eight women will be diagnosed with Breast Cancer during their lifetime. It is predicted that in 2003, there will be 211,300 new cases, with a woman diagnosed every two and a half minutes. When mastectomy is a part of the treatment plan, many special concerns arise. Recent advances in breast reconstruction have addressed many of these issues with sophisticated procedures that allow for restoration of the body and sense of wholeness. Unfortunately, few doctors and even fewer patients have up-to-date information about breast reconstruction and the latest surgical advances. We are here to help you.

Am I a Candidate?

No matter your age or size or whether you had mastectomy years ago, you are still a candidate for consideration of breast reconstruction. Our patient coordinator will help you complete a basic screening medical history form to be sure that your overall health and treatment needs are compatible with the consideration of breast restoration utilizing your body's own tissue.

New Natural Breasts

At the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery, we specialize in the DIEP and GAP flap procedures that allow for reconstruction of your breast without sacrifice of important functional muscle units in the abdomen (DIEP) or gluteal region (GAP). The restored breast is typically very natural looking with softness and shape that closely approach that of your own breast.

Immediate or Delayed Reconstruction

Breast reconstruction may be performed simultaneous to mastectomy for immediate restoration of volume and shape or at a later time for those who have had a mastectomy in the past. The benefit of immediate reconstruction is that it allows for a skin and/or nipple sparing mastectomy in those who are appropriate candidates. Our breast cancer surgeons can consult with you to decide whether immediate or delayed reconstruction is best for you. If you have already had a lumpectomy or mastectomy it is not too late to undergo restoration of your body and sense of wholeness. If you have had a previous reconstruction that you are now unhappy with, you may benefit from replacing your implants, expanders or other reconstruction with your own body's tissue.

The Center for Restorative Breast Surgery was established to serve as a dedicated resource for women seeking the most advanced methods of breast reconstruction utilizing the body’s own tissue. Sullivan, M.D., FACS, the Center for Restorative Breast Surgery specializes exclusively in state-of-the-art breast surgery techniques (DIEP, SIEA and GAP flap procedures) that allow for breast reconstruction without sacrifice of important functional muscles.
